George Reid, Jr.

Clyde, George Francis Reid, Jr., age 89, of Willow Tree Lane, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Grace Healthcare. A native of Lakewood, Ohio, he had resided in Haywood County for more than 60 years. He was the son of the late George Francis Reid, Sr. and Dorothy Sletzer Reid and was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Ruth Reid, who died in 2007, and two sisters. He was a veteran of World War II and was a retired mounted police officer. George enjoyed riding horses through Big Creek and spending time talking with his friends. He also enjoyed farming and bailing hay and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Junaluska. He is survived by one daughter, Diane Reid, of Clyde; two sisters, Virginia Riling Gunn of Franklin, and Billie Koleman and her husband, Ike, of Park City, Utah; several nieces and nephews; and a loving companion, Angel, his five-year-old Shih tzu. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Kenneth M. Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
