George Stuart

Canton – George Way Stuart, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at The Homestead. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, George was the son of the late B. M. and Della McElrath Stuart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Stuart Williams; a brother, Dale Stuart; and a foster-son, Ronald Frady. George retired in 1996 as a cook with Industrial Food Service at Champion International. He was also a member of Beulah Baptist Church. George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Frady Stuart of Canton; four sisters, Lois Oxendine and her husband, Bob, of Pembroke, NC, Alma Hord of Clyde, Claudette Swan and her husband, Bob, of Fairview, and Maxine Jarvis of Candler; step-mother, Gertrude Wiggins Stuart of Asheville; sister-in-law Bobbie Greene of Cleveland, TN; several nieces and nephews; and other special family, friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2015 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Barry Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church Brotherhood, 483 Sunset Circle, Canton, NC 28716.
