George Whitted

Canton – George Ray Whitted, 100, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Pigeon Valley Rest Home.

Ray was a native of Buncombe County but had resided in Haywood for most of his life.  He was a son of the late George Hobert and Rette Hutchison Whitted.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Tipton Whitted, who died in 2012 and a daughter, Martha Laughlin.  Ray was a member of Canton First Baptist Church and retired from Champion International with 40 years of service.

He is survived by a cousin, Alvin Hutchison, of Arden; four grandchildren, Kevin, Lori, Patrick, and Christopher; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Court Greene and Reverend Riley Covin officiating

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canton First Baptist Church in the name of Ray and Marjorie Whitted, 208 Academy Street, Canton, NC  28716.

The care of Mr. Whitted has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
