Waynesville-Georgia Leila Grant Childress, age 85, of James Loop, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2007 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. A native and life-long resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Grace Louethel Rich Grant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Crayton Ruben Childress, who died in 2005; one sister, Betty Jo Freeman; and two brothers, Jack and James Grant. She was employed for 18 years at Haywood Regional Medical Center as a nursing assistant and was an active member of Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church. Georgia especially loved to spend time with her family and also loved to can vegetables and work in her flowers. She had a very gentle soul and was warm and kind-hearted. She had a wonderful memory and could recall special details about her family's lives. She is survived by one son, Alan Jeffery Childress and his wife, Gail, of Waynesville; two sisters, Evelyn Green and her husband, Bobby and W. Grace "Smokie" Jones and her husband, Ken, both of Canton; grandson, Travis Alan Childress, of Waynesville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2007 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jay Jones and Reverend Greg Metcalf officiating. Burial will follow at Ratcliffe Cove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services, and at other times, at the residence of Alan Childress, 112 James Loop, Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church, 1300 Ratcliffe Cove Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
