Gerald Althouse

Balsam, NC and Ormond Beach, FL-Gerald F. ''Gerry'' Althouse, age 83, of Valencia Drive, Ormond Beach, Florida and a summer resident of Balsam died Tuesday, May 13, 2003.

A native of Fairfield County, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Gerald and Margaret Heintzman Althouse. A sister, Dorothy Smith, also preceded him in death. He was the first City Manager for the City of Ormond Beach, Florida and retired in 1981 after 35 years employment. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed the mountains and was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joanne E. Althouse; a daughter, Margaret Althouse of Ormond Beach, Florida; a son, Gerald ''Fred'' Althouse, Jr. and his wife, Teri of Ponce Inlet, Florida; a grandson, Jon Althouse; and a nephew Ed Smith.

A memorial service will be held in Ormond Beach at a later date.
