Canton-Gerald Edwin Breece, age 73 of 20 Garden Lane died Thursday, August 21, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late Ernest Milford and Flora Hendrix Breece. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Breece. He was employed as a purchasing agent for Champion International and later became self-employed. He was a member of Long's United Methodist Church and was a United States Army Veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Eva Lou Cook Breece, one daughter; Karen Breece Woody of Asheville, one sister; Freda Hooper of Waynesville, three brothers; Newton and Carrol Breece of Clyde and James Breece of Illinois and 2 grandchildren; Elizabeth Ann Woody of Asheville and John Lawrence Woody of Skyland.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2003 at Long's United Methodist Church with Reverend Brad Holliman officiating. Mr. Breece will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Long's Community Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Long's United Methodist Church, 1097 Coffee Branch Road, Canton, NC 28716.
