Gerald Chapman

Waynesville, Gerald Anson "Jake" Chapman, age 74, of 145 Long Street, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Samuel Gordon and Verna Medford Chapman. In addition to his parents, a sister, Shirley Hawkins, preceded him in death. He was self-employed, vegetable gardener, handyman and a knife maker. Gerald was an avid reader, a huge Carolina fan and a loyal Braves baseball fan. He was also a great cook and will be remembered for his cornbread. He is survived by two sons, Brian Keith Chapman and his wife, Robin, of Atlanta and Samuel Kent Chapman and his wife, Nancy, of Waynesville; one sister, Blanche Reeves of Waynesville; and three grandchildren, David, Sarah, and Elizabeth Chapman. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Philip Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Gerald Chapman through Friday. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
