Gerald Messer

Waynesville-Rev. Mike Messer, age 55, of Casual Lane, died Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Lowell and Marion Williams Messer. He is also preceded in death by his grandparents, Bonnie Frady and Kaywood Messer and Walter and Virginia Withers Williams. He worked as a pipefitter for over 30 years, and was currently employed by Southeastern Industrial Group. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Sylva. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Nancy; two sons, Shannon Messer and his wife, Tanya of Sylva and Jeremy Messer and his wife, Stacee of Canton; two brothers, Burrell T. Lee, Jr. of Gastonia and Stacy E. Messer of Denver, NC; his mother-in-law, Mildred Putnam of Waynesville; his aunt, Mary Ellen Carpenter and her husband, Joe of Waynesville, two uncles, Joe Hannah and his wife, Nettie and Bruce Hannah and his wife, Peggy, both of Waynesville and one grandson, Alex Messer of Sylva. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2006 in the chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville with Rev. Kenny Banks, Rev. James "Bo" Brown and Rev. Randy Hyatt officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times, at the residence. Serving as pallbearers will be Albert Allen, Jerry Wilburn, Logan Sorrells, Randy Carpenter, Steve Carpenter, Brian Russell, Jack Hoyle, Doyle Green, David Styles, John Tincher and Tim Gentry.
