Gerald Murray

September 25, 1933 — December 31, 2014

Gerald John Murray, age 81, went home to join his Lord on December 31, 2014 at his residence. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Hilliard John and Helen Ward Murray. He attended Emma High School before enlisting during the Korean conflict. Gerald served in the United States Army as a military policeman during the close of that war. He returned home to Asheville and was employed by the American Enka Company where he met his future wife, Hazel. Gerald dearly loved his Lord and his earthly family. One of his favorite pastimes was reading and reciting Bible scripture, quoting chapters at a time from memory. Gerald's favorite time of year was Christmas Eve. He possessed an incredible grasp of Biblical knowledge and history, and his sons learned much from him. Being an avid gardener, he loved being outdoors as well as visiting parks and historical museums with his family. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Johnson Murray; two sons, Stephen Murray and his wife, Trevia, and Brian Murray and his wife, Grayce; a sister, Gwen Summey; and two nieces, Leslie and Stephanie Marlowe. While heaven is richer today, Gerald is sorely missed by family and loved ones. An online memorial register is available at "Obituaries" at www.wellsfuneralhome.com
