Gerald Stuart Rathbone

Gerald Stuart Rathbone, 70, of the Crabtree Community passed away peacefully on August 3, 2023, at his residence.

A native of Haywood County, he was born on August 20, 1952, to the late John and Anna Smith Rathbone.  Gerald was formerly employed by Dayco Corporation for over 20 years and later retired from Metromont/Old Castle Concrete Products after 17 years of service. His commitment and hard work were evident throughout his life, leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with.   While Gerald's career achievements were commendable, it was his passion for farming that truly defined him. He devoted his life to tending to his farm and raising sheep. His dedication as a farmer will forever be etched in the memories of those who knew him.    Gerald was a faithful member of Crabtree Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many years.  In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his brother Johnny Rathbone and sister Juanita Evans.

Gerald cherished his role as a family man. He shared a beautiful journey of love and companionship with his beloved wife of 52 years, Mildred Mehaffey Rathbone. Their bond stood as a testament to their faith in Christ and their commitment to each other. Together, they created a loving home filled with warmth and unconditional support.

Gerald leaves behind cherished memories within his immediate family as well. He is survived by his daughter, Misty James (Jason), and son Dewayne Rathbone (Charlene), both residing in Crabtree. Notably, Gerald had a special niece named Lynn Greene who held a dear place in his heart; she was like a daughter to him. Lynn resides in Clover, S.C.; a sister Katherine Hahn of Crabtree; and a brother Henry Rathbone, also residing in Crabtree. Gerald's legacy continues through his five grandchildren: Carley McCracken (Michael), Elijah Rathbone, and Jalynn, Megan, and Luke James. His love, guidance, and wisdom will forever remain in their lives.

To honor Gerald's life and pay tribute to the impact he made on others, a funeral service will take place at Crabtree Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2023, with Reverend Josh Evans, Reverend Dewayne Rathbone, and Reverend Greg Warren officiating.  Burial will follow at Crabtree Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:45 at the church.

The care of Mr. Rathbone has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton and an online memorial register is available at "Obituaries" at www.wellsfuneralhome.com.
