Geraldine Hyde

Geraldine Stevenson Hyde, age 82, bravely lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at John F. Keever, Jr., Solace Center in Asheville. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Don and Oda Reed Stevenson. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Stevenson. Geraldine was a member of West Canton Baptist Church and a former member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church. Affectionately known as "Mamaw," she was a homemaker and caregiver to her beloved grandchildren. Geraldine loved her family dearly and spent as much time as she possibly could with her precious loved ones. In the past years, she could be found drinking coffee at McDonalds and shopping with her daughters. Her other loves in this life were watching the Atlanta Braves, collecting frog figurines, going to church, and making people laugh with her jokes. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Frank Hyde; three daughters, Pam Rask and her husband, Fred, of Clyde; Sharla Rhinehart and her husband, Ricky, of Canton; and Kim King and her husband, Jay, of Canton; two brothers, Harry Stevenson of Asheville and Bobby Stevenson of Canton; a sister, Judy Limbo of Canton; six grandchildren, April Haider and her husband, Markus, of Clyde; Freddy Rask and his wife, Nicole, of Canton; Hunter King, Brooke Rhinehart, Dakota King, and Cheyanne King, all of Canton; and two great-grandchildren, Aden and Macon Haider. A celebration of Geraldine's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday February 1, 2012, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend George Holley and Reverend Wallace Britt officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
