Geraldine Wood

Clyde, Geraldine Messer Wood, 84, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2012, with her family by her side, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. She was born September 17, 1927 to Grady and Jessie Noland Messer of the Crabtree community and in 1950, she married the love of her life, James Robert Wood. After graduating from Crabtree-Ironduff High School in 1944, she went on to work at the American Enka Company where she retired after forty-two and a half years of faithful service. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering for Haywood County Meals on Wheels and being an active part of Crabtree Baptist Church, where she was a life-long member. In death, she was reunited with her parents, Grady and Jessie, and her beloved husband, Robert. Left to cherish her memory are one son, Mr. Robert "Bobby" Wood of Clyde; twin grandsons, Mr. Dallas Wood and his wife, Andrea of Cary, NC and Mr. Brian Wood of Clyde; and a very special daughter-in-law, Mrs. Collette Wood Parkins of Clyde. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Crabtree Baptist Church with Reverend Matt Ledbetter officiating. Burial will follow at the Crabtree Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ben and Daren Wade, Alan Parkins, Nathan Best, Johnny Grogan, and Dallas Green. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Geraldine's honor to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or to Elon University's General Scholarship Fund in memory of Geraldine Wood, Campus Box 2600, Elon, NC 27244.
