Gertrude Pressley

Canton – Gertrude Alice Brookshire Pressley, age 102, of Stamey Cove Road passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Pigeon Valley Rest Home with her family by her side. She was a native of Buncombe County, and had resided in Haywood County most of her life. Gertrude was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Young Brookshire. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Alvin Pressley, who died in 1997; three brothers, and one sister. Gertrude was a dedicated member of Maple Grove Baptist Church where she was very involved in her Sunday school class before her health began to decline. She was the matriarch of her family and always held their best interests in her heart. Gertrude made beautiful quilts and will be remembered for her delicious cooking. She is survived by a daughter, Freida Rhinehart (Bill); a granddaughter, Lisa Sellers (Carlton); a grandson, Steven Gregory Rhinehart; two great-granddaughters, Bailey Raye Sellers and McKinley Kiera Rhinehart both of Canton; one great-grandson, William Pressley Sellers and his fiancée, Rachel Suzanne Caldwell, of Boone, NC; two step great-grandsons, Michael and Matthew Ford of Canton; one step great-great granddaughter, Georgia Ford and a special friend, Joe Simpson. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Piney Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pigeon Valley Rest Home Activity Fund, 100 Silver Bluff Drive, Canton, NC 28716 or Piney Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o Johnny Woody, 986 Country Club Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
