Gertrude Welch

Waynesville-Gertrude Plott Welch, 89, formerly of 70 Lingermore Drive, died on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. A native and life-long resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late James Robert and Mable Sprinkle Plott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Vance Welch who died in 1995; one sister Lucille Plott Griswold and a brother James Robert Plott. She was formerly an employee of the Clerk of Court of Haywood County. She enjoyed family gatherings, was avid bridge player and enjoyed many parties with family and friends. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. She is survived by three daughters, Lynda Welch Cagle and her husband O.V. "Spunk" Cagle of Waynesville; Susan Welch Harris and her husband Michael of Cary, NC and Sally Welch Ray of Waynesville; one son, Robert H. Clark and his wife Sharon of Jamul, CA; two sisters, Betty Schabinger of Maggie Valley and Margie Roberts of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Reverend Kathleen Wilson and Reverend Larry Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the services at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Joseph W. Green, Robert Vance Cagle, Amanda L. Harris, John Griswold, Gary Hummer, and Julius F. Morrow.
