Getter O'Diear

Getter Cornillis O'Diear, age 86, died Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Charles George V.A. Medical Center. A native of Swain County, he was a son of the late Columbus Harve and Amy Kirkland O'Diear. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Elenora Neal O'Diear, who died in 2004 and a sister, Effie Worley. He retired from Champion International with 35 years of service and was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church where he was active with the RA's many years ago. Getter was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by two sons, Jimmy O'Diear and his wife Diane, of Easley, SC, and Tony O'Diear of Canton; one daughter, Gerry Kelly and her husband, Pat, of Canton; one sister, Ellie Brown of Asheville; eight grandchildren, Matthew Kelly, April Kelly Rast, Cortney O'Diear Wofford, Lauren, Zachary, Nathan, Christopher, and Shawn O'Diear; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Reverend Brad Joyner officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the V.A.
