Gladys Coman

November 12, 1928 — February 19, 2014

Gladys Brown Coman, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at her residence. Gladys was born on November 12, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Clifford and Annette Haynes Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Love Armstrong "L. A." Coman, Jr.; a son, Love Armstrong "Chip" Coman, III; a sister, Hilda Myers; three brothers, Mark, Bruce, and C.E. Brown; and a niece, Carol Myers Saunook. Gladys was a lifelong resident of Haywood County. She attended Clyde High School, Western Carolina Teachers College at Cullowhee and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Gladys taught school in Durham City schools and Canton High School. She was a member of Canton Central United Methodist Church and an affiliate member of Cruso United Methodist Church. Gladys is survived by one son, Matt Coman and his wife, Lisa and a granddaughter, Bailey Marie Coman of Canton; a Godchild, Marcy Coman Scott of Canton; a brother, Milton "Bucky" Brown and his wife, Gladys Brown of Clyde; three nieces, Deborah Strum and Susan and Beverly Brown; and three nephews, John Myers and David and John Brown. A service celebrating the life of Gladys will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul Brown officiating. Jeff Powell will deliver a eulogy. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Chip's Chapel Maintenance Fund, c/o Boy Scouts of America Camp Daniel Boone Council, 333 W. Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
