Waynesville, Gladys Viola Rhodarmer Cook, age 85, of Ivy Hill Drive, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Earnest Lee and Hattie Robena Moody Rhodarmer. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, June L. Cook, who died in 2008 and two brothers, Brown and Wilburn Rhodarmer. Gladys enjoyed working in her flower garden, crocheting, and was an excellent caregiver, putting needs of others ahead of her own. She loved playing the piano and was a member of Clyde Freewill Baptist Church. Gladys is survived by her husband of 70 years, Reverend Carl Cook and two sisters, Eula Smith and her husband Norris, and Vera Meadows and her husband, William, of Waynesville. In addition, she is also survived by four nieces, Melody Dailey (Dwight), Rhonda Phillips, Judy Pennyfeather (Jim), and Sherry Keener (Gerald) and one nephew, Tim Smith (Sherry) and a special friend, Vicky Burgess. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Ted Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Smith, Gerald Keener, Hunter Chambers, Wesley Warren, Anthony McCall and Tracy Cobb. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
