Gladys Harkins

Gladys West Harkins, age 85, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Nellie Day West. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Edward Harkins; two sisters, Annie Wells and Vernie Pearl West; and two brothers, William Harrison and Clarence Herschel West. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Gladys loved to read and work crossword puzzles. She is survived by two sons, James Edward Harkins and his wife, Lucy, of Canton and Douglas Wayne Harkins and his wife, Peggy, of Waynesville; and a brother, J. T. West and his wife, Nancy, of Canton. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road with the Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence, 133 North Main Street and friends may also call at Wells Funeral Home of Canton prior to the graveside service.
