Gladys King

Candler – Gladys Clark King, age 91, passed away on Monday, March 07, 2016 at Care Partner's Hospice Solace Center. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Letcher and Hattie Elender Capps Clark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, and two brothers. Gladys had a dedicated work ethic that was admired by all who knew her. She was very outgoing and never met a stranger. Known to many as "Granny", she helped raise many children who were not her own and loved them all dearly. Above all, Gladys adored her family who will continue to cherish her memory. She was also a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Ruby Morgan and husband, Dan, Elender Kuykendall and husband, Paul, and Betty King; six grandchildren, Sherri Cauley, Dennis Hall, Tammy Smathers, Melissa Laney, Tyrell Kuykendall, and Chad King; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Eddie and Bill Clark. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Reverend Jack W. Collins and her nephew, Reverend Billy Dale Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
