Waynesville, Gladys Reeves Massie, age 85 of Henry Street, died Friday, January 23, 2009 at Pisgah Manor. She was a native of Haywood County and the daughter of the late Charlie and Ethel Messer Reeves. She was also preceded in death by her husband, L. J. Massie, who died in 1969, one grandson, Charlie Reeves, three brothers and one sister. Mrs. Massie worked at Enka Corp prior to working at Dayco in the belt department for twenty-eight years. She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed cooking for her family, quilting, gardening and canning. She is survived by three sons; Nick C. Reeves and his wife Katie of Canton, Wallace B. Massie and his wife Linda of Waynesville and Charles B. Massie and his wife Jamie of Waynesville; one sister, Fannie Thomason of Clyde, five grandchildren; Matthew Massie and his wife Melissa, Crystal, Jonathan, Christopher and Aaron Massie and four great-grandchildren; Jacob, John Logan, Jennifer and Creed Massie. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Reverend Johnny Swanger, Reverend Alan Davis and Reverend Ted Reeves will officiate. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the funeral. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
