Gladys Smiley

Waynesville- Gladys Freeman Smiley, 84, of 35 Burris Lane, died on Friday, June 16, 2006 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Sam L. and Ida Pegg Freeman. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Jason W. Smiley, Sr.; one sister, Bessie Roberts; one brother, Hal Freeman and one grandson, Joseph Woodrow Burris. She was an active member of Ninevah Baptist Church and she worked 28 years in the cafeteria for the Haywood County School System. She was survived by her four daughters; Ida Burris and her husband Charles of Waynesville, Stella Wilson and her husband Arthur of Orange Park, Fl, Etta Capps and Ellie Smiley, both of Greer, SC; three sons, Jason W. Smiley, Jr. and his wife Norma of Summerville, SC, Robert V. Smiley and his wife Sonja of Gaffney, SC and Sam Smiley and his wife Kathy of Waynesville; one brother Sam Freeman, Jr. and his wife Jeanette of Old Fort, NC; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2006 at the Ninevah Baptist Church with Reverend Wayne Sorrells and Reverend Michael Leslie officiating and Connie Burris Cooper will be delivering the Eulogy. Burial will follow at the Greenhill Cemetery in Waynesville. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Serving as pallbearers are Mark Burris, Sonny Wilson, Victor Morgan, Gary Wayne Smiley, Chad Smiley and Jason Smiley. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Wilson, Scott Wilson, Chris Morgan and Robert D. Smiley.
