Gladys Howard Trantham, age 65, died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Swain County, she was a daughter of Omie Jean Smith of Candler and the late Raymond Levi Howard. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Smith. Gladys was a member of Luther Pentecostal Holiness Church. She is survived by her husband, Cecil Ray Trantham; one son, Donald Earl Edwards and his wife, Cindy, of Candler; seven brothers, Levi Howard of Swannanoa, Reverend Bobby Howard of Brevard, Charles Howard of Mt. Holly, Eugene and Dennis Howard of Bryson City, Edward Smith of Candler, and Jack Smith of Marion; four sisters, Linda Shuler of Candler, Marcia Hollifield of Robbinsville, Judy Blevins and Linda Lowe of Bryson City; and three grandchildren, Donny, Cody and Ryan Edwards. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with her brother, Reverend Bobby Howard and her nephew, Reverend Tim Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
