Gladys Turner

Clyde, Gladys Louise Turner, age 78, of the Panther Creek Community, died Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Greenville, SC where she lived most of her life and lived in Haywood County for the past 26 years. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Helen Barbare Black. Gladys was also preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Bill Turner, who died in 1998 and a sister, Linda Jordan. She was a dedicated homemaker and pastor's wife and was a member of Panther Creek Baptist Church. She was a talented singer and in her younger years, sang on the radio with a country band. Most of all, she loved her family and her grandchildren were the love of her life. She is survived by a daughter, Jackie Spencer, and her husband, Fred of Clyde; a son, Larry Turner, and his wife, Cathy of Greenville, SC; two sisters, Pauline Black Noe of Taylors, SC and Dee Black Hall of Piedmont, SC; two brothers, Charles E. Black of Easley, SC and Roy D. "Cadillac" Black of Greenville, SC; five grandchildren, Freddie Spencer, Larry Joe Turner, Eddie Spencer, Chris Turner and Beth Brown; four great-grandchildren, Crystal Jackson, Christine Spencer, Zakary and Cortny Brown and two great-great-grandchildren, Sophia and Sy-eed Jackson. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville with Reverend Ronald Greene, Reverend Sherrill Moore and Reverend Gerald Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Panther Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
