Maggie Valley, Glen Darel Kelley, age 74, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at the Solace Center of Asheville. A native of Alfalfa, Oklahoma, he resided in Simi, California for 15 years working with the developing space and nuclear industry before moving to Haywood County in 1973. He was the son of the late Hugh W. and Nina Hankins Kelley and was also preceded in death by five brothers and sisters. He was owner/operator of G& J Auto in Waynesville, which became The Auto Convalescent Shop from 1973 to 1982. He then worked for Realty World developing property and establishing roads. He retired from Laurel Ridge County Club as the Grounds Maintenance Manager. He was an active member of Maggie Valley United Methodist Church where he enjoyed working for God and the community with his many talents. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Marie D. Kelley; one son, Rodney Darel Kelley and his wife, Bonnie, of Troy, NC; one daughter, Janet Kelley Davis and her husband, Rick, of Asheboro, NC; stepchildren, Pat Bennett and his wife, Lynda, Don Bennett and his wife, Joy, and Tom Bennett, all of Maggie Valley and Joy Cline and her husband, Gene, of Candler; eight grandchildren, Ben and Daniel Cline, Rachael, Sarah, Lauren, and Elijah Bennett and Bobby and Christopher Nelson; one great grandchild, Jayden Cline; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Maggie Valley United Methodist Church with Reverend David Reeves, Reverend Richard Buff, and Reverend Erma Bond officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maggie Valley United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 112, Maggie Valley, NC 28715.
