Waynesville - Glenda Reece Carpenter passed away at age 81 on May 25, 2013 in Waynesville, North Carolina, following a short illness. Glenda was born in Paris, Texas on October 1, 1931, the daughter of Boyd and Opal (Griffin) Reece, and grew up in San Angelo, Texas, graduating from San Angelo High School and San Angelo Junior College. On Christmas Eve 1951 she married James Robert Carpenter, a USAF pilot at Goodfellow Air Force Base, and remained married until his death in 1992. After moving to Brownwood, Texas in 1971, she earned her LVN license and served as a highly respected emergency room nurse in Brownwood for over 20 years. Following retirement, she kept residences in Midland, Texas and Waynesville, North Carolina. Glenda was widely admired for her artistic talent, and her ability to make lasting friends. All who knew her enjoyed her remarkable energy and spirit. She is survived by two sons, James Carpenter Jr. and wife Judy of Maggie, North Carolina, and Paul Carpenter of Sacramento, California; two grandsons, Phillip Carpenter and wife Stella, and David Carpenter and wife Brandy, all of North Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Kylee and Brayden; brother Boyd Reece of Midland Texas; nieces Linda Williams, Pam Reece, and Tonya Reece and nephew Tommy Byrne of Midland Texas; cousin Nelda Smith of Austin, Texas; "family-by-choice" Debra Moore and Myrtle Noland of Waynesville, North Carolina, and Clara Wright of Brownwood Texas; and many loving extended family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cherokee Children's Home in Cherokee, Texas. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 27, 2013 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early, Texas.
