Glenn Browning

October 4, 1936 — July 9, 2014

Canton – Glenn "Churn" Lee Browning, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Kenneth Early and Edna Swanger Browning. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, William "Blue" and Virgil Browning and a sister, Geraldine Ford. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Churn was an avid fisherman and bear hunter. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shelba Treadway Browning; three daughters, Glenda Hess and her husband, Billy of Concord, NC, Pam Holly and her husband Harold, of Catawba, NC and Kathy Browing of Canton; a son, Glenn Lee Browning, Jr. and his wife, Kim, of Canton; two brothers, Fredrick "Ollis" Browning and his wife, Barbara, of Totowa, NJ, and James Carroll Browning and his wife, Eileen, of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Ashley Browning of Asheville, McKenna Browning of Canton and Megan Green of Clyde and one great-grandchild, Maddie Erwin of Clyde. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2014 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Horton officiating. Burial will follow at Buchanan Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 300 Memphis, TN 38148.
