Glenn Hampton

Canton – Glenn Thomas Hampton, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at MedWest – Haywood. A native of Clay County, he was the son of the late Fred Bascom and Bertha Mae Scroggs Hampton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Kay Crawford Hampton who died in 1989. He retired from Champion International with 50 plus years of service and was a member of Canton First United Methodist Church. He is survived by one son, Glenn Thomas (Tom) Jr. and his wife, Marilyn, of Duluth, GA, and one daughter, Keitha Alford and her husband, Kenneth, of Arden; one sister, Willa Hampton Carswell of Maggie Valley; one sister-in-law, Lois R. Hampton, of Canton, and a special friend, Suzanne Wilson; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Crawford Ray Memorial Gardens with Glenn T. Hampton III officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 LeRoy George Dr., Clyde, NC 28721.
