Glenn Medlin

Waynesville, Glenn Arthur Medlin, 76, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. Glenn leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Patricia Medlin; daughter, Glenna Penn; granddaughters, Julie Congleton, Rhiannon Turley and Jennifer Bloomfield; brothers, James Medlin, Jr., and Steve Medlin; sisters, Patricia and Kathy Russell; Patricia's children, Debra Deaton, Cynthia Broadhead and Mark Gomes; grandchildren, Devin and Deanna Thompson, Julie and Wendy Broadhead and great-grandchildren, Lily and Colin Patrick Thompson. Glenn was preceded in death by his daughter, Jackie Medlin, his parents, Mom and Dad Mahala and Jim Medlin; brothers, Freddie and John "Sandpaper" Medlin and sisters, Celia Morton and Mahala Dollarhide. Glenn was born in Globe, Arizona, March 6, 1933 to the late Mahala and James Medlin, Sr. The Medlin's were a cattle ranching family with 9 children. In 1953, he joined the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from his tour of duty, he married Sherrill Isham of Kingman, AZ and then attended the Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The family moved to Bullhead, Arizona in 1959 where he purchased the Five Grand Bar. He was, at one time the city's fire chief and sat on the Board of Directors of Mohave Electric Co-op for many years. After selling the bar, he owned Tri-State Refuse and landfill, operating in Arizona, California and Nevada. He was a fixture and inspiration to the community and was always willing to help out friends and neighbors. After retirement, he and his wife Patricia moved to Maggie Valley, NC in 1995. There he lived out the remainder of his years and made many good friends. He enjoyed helping them in every way, particularly, mechanically. He traveled back to Arizona and Nevada to see his family as often as he could. He particularly loved going to his brother Steve's ranch in Alamo, NV to help with round up. He and Patricia also loved to hunt at the ranch. He was an excellent hunter, tracker and fisherman. A memorial gathering will be held at 4:00p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
