Glenn Huel Phillips, age 80, died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at his residence. A native of Jackson County, he was a son of the late Paul Dombey and Grace Daves Phillips. He was a member of Clyde First Baptist Church and enjoyed his retirement from American Enka (BASF) doing volunteer work for his church, fishing and helping build 23 houses with Haywood Habitat for Humanity. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris Phillips; two daughters, Theresa Phillips of Clyde and Donna Wilson and her husband, Bruce, of Cattanooga, TN; two sons, Charles Phillips and his wife, Gretta, of Waynesville and David Phillips of Jonesborough, TN; three sisters, Britta Holcombe of Whittier, Ann Cook and her husband, J.B., of Matthews, and Sandra Blanton and her husband, Hugh, of Whittier; one brother, Clyde Phillips and his wife, Sue, of Sylva; three grandsons, Jesse Phillips and his wife, Heather, Josh and Mark Wilson; one granddaughter, Kelli Shuler; several nieces and nephews; and adopted family members, Geoff Dupre, Nancy Talbert, Sarah Hannah, and Samuel Lupton. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. David Phillips, Reverend James Parham, and Reverend Charles Dean officiating. Burial will follow at Lower Coward Cemetery in Caney Fork. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
