Golenia Massie

Golenia S. Massie, age 98, died, Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Lakewood Quarters Nursing Home in Baton Rouge, Louisianna. Mrs. Massie was born in Haywood County to Onville and Fannie Sizemore, she was the eldest of twelve children. She was active in the United Methodist Women at Morning Star Methodist Church until the death of her husband, Ira, who died in 1993. Mrs. Massie then moved to a retirement center in Baton Rouge, LA. She is survived by three children, Johnny Massie and his wife, Lucy, of Rocky Mount, NC, Aileen Pine and her husband, Henry, of Baton Rouge, LA, and Juanita Hill and her husband, Tommy, of Savannah, GA; one sister, Wanda Sizemore of Clyde and two brothers, Spurgeon Sizemore of Clyde and Fain Sizemore of Alexandria, AL; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2008 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Doug Love officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Sam, Jerry, and Dale Massie, Bryant A. Hill, Gene Vanhook, and Denny Cole. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morning Star United Methodist Church, 2535 Dutch Cove Road, Canton, NC 28716.
