Gordon Gibson

Gordon Leon Gibson, age 67, loving husband, father, granddaddy, and brother died on Monday, October 25, 2010, at his residence with his wife, sister, and cousin by his side. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of Hillary Gibson and Frances Stroupe Passmore. Gordon was preceded in death by his step-father, James H. Passmore and maternal grandmother, Mary J. Lee. He graduated from Clyde High School in 1961 and was a member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church. He retired from "Little Champion" with 37 years of service. Gordon was an avid golfer and liked to fish. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the North Carolina National Guard. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lynda Rogers Gibson; three sons, Leon Channing Gibson and his wife, Vicky and David Martin Gibson and his wife, Mary Ann, all of Waynesville, and Lcpl. Nicholas Patrick Gibson, a U. S. Marine serving in Afghanistan and his wife, Jessica; two daughters, Wendy Jo Ferguson and her husband, Todd, of Hendersonville and Lisa Marie Gibson and her partner, Leigh Peters, of Knoxville; his step-mother, Ruby Gibson of Waynesville; a sister, Mary Arrington and her husband, David "Bud" of Waynesville; three brothers, Jim Passmore and his wife, Priscilla "Cil" of Arden and Ricky Gibson and his wife, Marlene, and Terry Gibson and his wife, Diane, all of Waynesville; mother-in-law, Mary Rogers; sister-in-law, Rikki Rogers; and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with the Reverend Bill Cranfield, Reverend Ricky Gibson, and Reverend Carrol Lindsey officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3109 Poplarwood Court, Suite 125, Raleigh, NC 27604-1043.
