Waynesville-Gordon Eugene Hendrix, age 76, of Lickstone Road, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Memorial Mission Hospital. He was a native and life long resident of Haywood County. He was the son of the late Swan L. and Allie Cunningham Hendrix. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer, Ralph, and Oscar Hendrix, a son, Keith Lamar Hendrix, who died July 10, 1994, two grandsons, Haven O'Neal and Heath Isaac Hendrix, and one great grandson, Joshua Bradley Norris. He graduated from Waynesville Township High School and was a self employed builder. He attended Allen's Creek Baptist Church, was an avid bear hunter, and loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Linda Roberts Hendrix; three daughters, Donna Parton and her husband, Bill and Vickie Hendrix, both of Waynesville, and Doris H. Haney and her husband Vick of Canton; four sons, Roger Dale Hendrix and his wife, Joyce, Neal Martin Hendrix and his wife, Lani, Terry Lee Hendrix and his wife, Lurissia, and Steven Brian Hendrix, all of Waynesville; one sister, Bonnie Hendrix Lanning and her husband Earl, of Waynesville; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at Allen's Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Eddie Deitz and Reverend Chan Chandler officiating. Burial will follow at Buchanan Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services of Waynesville. The pallbearers will be Dewayne Crawford, Floyd West, Aurett Bumgardner, Jimmy Sorrells, David Jones, Mike Bailey, Sonny Grey, and Jim Osborne. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, One St. Jude Place Building, P.O. Box 10000, Dept. 300, Memphis, TN 38148.
