Grace Jenkins

Grace Rathbone Jenkins, age 89, died Monday, June 16, 2008, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late John and Kate Early Rathbone. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Walter Jenkins, Sr. who died in 1993. She retired from Haywood County Hospital with 21 years of service and was a member of Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons, Johnny Lee Jenkins and his wife, Peggy, of Canton and James Walter Jenkins, Jr., of Weaverville; three daughters, Virginia Underwood and her husband, James, of Clyde, Catherine Jaynes and her husband, John, of Waynesville, and Carolyn Haney and her husband, Mike, of Clyde; a sister, Shirley Hamlett of Canton; a brother, Joseph Rathbone of Marshall; 9 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend James Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
