Grace Messer

Grace Estella Messer "Loving Mother and Grandmother" Asheville- Grace Estella Messer, age 98, passed in peace on Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Aston Park Health Care Center. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Charlotte Cates Foster. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Messer, who died in 1977; a son, John Messer, and two daughters, Jennie Davis and Ruth Ann Owenby. Grace was a member of Bingham Heights Baptist Church where she loved to work with the children. She also collected dolls. She is survived by three sons, James Messer and his wife, Mary, Jackie Messer, and Troy Messer and his wife, Marsha, all of Asheville; a special grandson, Jackie Lee Messer, of Virginia; 19 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Roger A. Kuykendall officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Canton.
