Grace Welch

Grace Sheffield Welch, age 96, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Canton Christian Convalescent Center. She was a native of Macon County and a prior resident of Detroit, MI, and was a current resident of Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late William Coleman and Emily Jenkins Sheffield. She was also preceded in death by one son, Troy Welch; a daughter, Loretta Moore; nine brothers and six sisters. She was a 20-year employee with General Motors working in the Inspection Department and was a member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church in Franklin. Grace enjoyed reading and working in her flower garden. She is survived by a daughter, Bernice Owen of Canton; a half-sister, Edith Stoudemire of Franklin; five grandchildren, Andrea Gibson, Ardis Campbell, Lorie Hurst, Cynthia Welch, and Lisa Welch; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Paul Starnes officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Pallbearers will be Tony Gibson, Alan Gibson, Jimmy Hill, Angelia Hill, Robbie Bartholomew, and Cliff Bell.
