Waynesville, Gregory Michael "Butch" Parris, age 68, of Thomas Park, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015 at his residence. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late George Curtis and Margaret Bryson Parris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Annette Parris, Norcella Frady, Janice Clark and Joy Smith; and two brothers, Charles and Mark Parris. Butch was a 1965 graduate of Waynesville Township High School and attended Southwestern Community College where he achieved Phi Theta Kappa Honors as an outstanding student. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and the US Army serving during the Vietnam Era. He is survived by a sister, Karen Parris Saunders of Franklin; a brother, James Alvin Parris of Waynesville; a half-sister, Patty Parris; nieces and nephews, Benjamin Parris, Whitney Parris-Lamb, Will Parris, Josh Parris, Taylor Parris, Randy Cope, Curt Cope, Lorna Parris, Karen Parris, Sandusky Parris, Julie Brooks, Isaac Brooks, Chris Saunders, Coleman Saunders, Clay Saunders, Michael Saunders, Lauren Saunders, Ashley Haney and Gregory Clark. Graveside services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2015 in the veterans section of Green Hill Cemetery with full military honors. Family and friends gathered at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 8th at the Tipping Point in Waynesville to share memories of Butch. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
