Grover Davis

November 19, 1917 — April 1, 2011

Clyde, Grover Harrison Davis, age 93, formerly of Thompson Cove, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Life Care Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Patton and Cynthia Rathbone Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Maybelle Anderson, Maggie Hibdon, and Estalee Davis and one brother, Floyd Davis. A Champion Papers Old Timer, he retired as a millwright after 35 years service. Grover enjoyed his woodworking hobby and was a member of Woodland Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lucille Arrington Davis; two daughters, Grovene Dowell and her husband, Danny, of Asheville and Hilda Ippolito and her husband, Joseph, of Travelers Rest, South Carolina; one sister, Vickie Henry; four grandchildren, Kisha Donahue, Jason Dowell and his wife, Margie, Christa Williams and her husband, Jess, and Gregory Leveto; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2011 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Alan Davis, Reverend Glenn Rogers, and Reverend Bobby Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
