Clyde-Grover Davis Rice, age 81, of Old Clyde Road, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 26, 2005 after several years of declining health. His loving and devoted wife Lillian Burnette Rice survives him along with their children and grandchildren who loved him dearly and were recipients of his love and care. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Herbert F. and Janie Smathers Rice. After Graduating from Canton High School in1941, he enlisted in the Army Aircorp where he served for three years until the end of World War II. He was employed by Champion International for 44 years as a pipefitter and in Shift Repair. As a longtime member of Canton First Baptist Church, he was a former Deacon and active member of the Murray Baracus Sunday School Class. His lifelong Activities included cattle farming and gardening. In retirement he was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels and participated in the Snug Harbor retirees group. He was a blessing to family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by, three daughters, Judy Rice of Port St. Lucie, FL, Linda Henson and her husband Larry of Canton, Jan Henson and her husband Kenneth of Canton, one son Stephen Grover Rice and his wife Lou Ann of Canton, one sister Wilma R. Cooper of Candler, two brothers and their wives, Harold and Hilda Rice and Charles and Ester Rice, all of Canton, 8 grandchildren, Stephanie Summey and her husband James, Daniel Rice and his wife Crystal, Jeremy Messer and Jennifer Anagnostu and her husband Kris, Lauren, Lindsey, Ashley and Jade Henson and one great-granddaughter Amber Summey. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with Reverend Dr. Rick Gosnell and Reverend Michael Nations officiating. Burial will follow in the Beaverdam Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Baraca-Bishop Sunday school class and members of "Snug Harbor". Memorials may be made to Canton First Baptist Church, 74 Academy Street, Canton, NC 28716.
