Gunter Meyer, Sr.

Waynesville, Gunter George Meyer, Sr., age 85, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Harris Regional Hospital. A native of Lubeck, Germany, he was the son of the late Otton Himmch and Frieda Meyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Richards Meyer, who, died in 2003. He retired as a Captain from the Baton Rouge Sherriff's Department with 30 years of service and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville. He was a gifted carpenter with a big heart for animals. A strong, compassionate and caring man, he never met a stranger who loved to talk to everyone and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Gunter was always there for his family, and they were his most prized possession. He will always be remembered as being a loving father, husband, Opa and Papa Daddy, who will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by two daughters, Karen Stricklan of Vidor, Texas, Drehr Chidester and her husband, Daniel, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a stepdaughter, Teynac Wood of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two sons, Gunter Meyer, Jr. of Vidor, Texas and Harvey Lynn Meyer of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a special friend and companion, Emily Crews of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Heather Stricklan, Elizabeth Lesini, Jessica and Marc Meyer and Luke Wood; and one great-grandson, Daniel Joseph "Ducky" Lesini. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville with Reverend Holly Davis officiating.
