Canton- Guy Walter King, 72 died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Duke Medical Center. He was a native of Buncombe County, but had lived the majority of his life in Haywood. He was the son of the late Will and Lura Stines King and was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Mr. King retired in 1995 from Champion International with 42 years of service and was a member of Rocky Face Baptist Church. He coached Canton youth baseball for 21 years and was an avid supporter of Pisgah High School athletics, especially football. He was an avid outdoorsman, and a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jean Webb King; one daughter, Angie Stafford of Old Fort; three sons, Eugene, Dicky and Jay King all of Canton; two sisters, Thelma King and Blanche Hall both of Canton; 7 grandchildren, Terry and Kari King, Shayne King, Travis Privett, Hunter, Dakota, and Cheyanne King and one great-granddaughter, Ashley Marie King. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services with the Reverend Donnie Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery in Clyde. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
