Guy Ward

"1924 – 2017" Canton – Guy Jason Ward, 93, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 at his residence. Born in Henderson County in 1924 and was a lifelong resident of Haywood County, Guy was a son of the late Lynn Jason and Inez Case Ward. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Phyllis Wyatt Ward, who died in 1998; two brothers, J.C. "Hoot" and Lester Ward; three sisters, Irene Keener, Lucille Milner, and Mabel Wilson; and a great-grandson, Joseph Cagle. Guy joined his father in the family business, Ward Piano Company, in 1946 following his service in the United States Army during World War II. He served as owner and operator of the business for 40 years until his retirement in 1986 and then remained active there until December 2016. Guy also served in numerous offices with the Robertson Memorial Y.M.C.A. in Canton. Guy and his wife were lifelong members of Canton Freewill Baptist Church where he and Phyllis taught the children's Sunday school class. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Robin and Lee Berger of Los Angeles, California and Kelly and Danny Smith of Canton; two sons and their wives, Kerwin "Ace" and Laurie Cagle of Waynesville and Alden and Mary Ward of Canton; eight grandchildren, Stacy, Leigh, Will, Amber, Jesse, Amelia, Ethan, and Jared; and one great-granddaughter, Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Canton Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverend Jeremy Cagle, Reverend Jack Moran, and Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
