GWENDOLYN MEDFORD "She Cared For All" Clyde, Mrs. Gwendolyn Elizabeth Guess Medford, 85, passed away with a dear friend and family members at her side on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at The Homestead. She was born and grew up in Barberton, Ohio and was the daughter of the late John and Pauline Wollett Guess. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Robert Taylor Medford, Sr. who passed away in January of 2015; two sons, William Taylor Medford and Robert Taylor Medford, Jr.; and a brother Gary Guess, Sr. of Knoxville, TN. Gwen was an excellent bookkeeper and was employed in the past as Haywood County Auditor and worked at First Union National Bank, Clyde Savings & Loan, Haywood Tractor and Folkmoot, USA. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church and served as church clerk and treasurer for many years and was very active in the WMU. She was a past member of the Haywood County Home Extension and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. Gwen loved to put up a garden, was an excellent cook, enjoyed doing crochet, making quilts, and playing Bingo. She was always doing for others and enjoyed preparing food for the sick and visiting church friends and family. Mrs. Medford is survived by three sons and their wives, Dean and Peggy Medford of Waynesville, Gene and Tamara Medford of Clyde and Delbert and Kendra Medford of Clyde; a sister, Karen G. Csaszar of Barberton, Ohio; five granddaughters, Stefanie M. Cash and her husband Sean of Waynesville, Heidi Medford of Augusta, GA, Haley Medford, Rachel Medford and Dominique Medford of Clyde; one step-granddaughter, Gina Phillips and her husband, Keith, of Asheville; two great grandchildren, Andrew and Leah Gilland of Waynesville and two step-great grandchildren, Greyson and Iva Phillips of Asheville; a sister-in-law, Linda Guess of Knoxville, TN; Mr. Medford's surviving brothers and sisters: George Medford, Harold Medford and his wife Wilda of Clyde, Nancy M. Wells of Canton and Beulah Zumwalt of Deer Park, TX; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend David Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association, 31 College Place Suite D 320, Asheville, NC 28801.
