Waynesville-H. Vaughn Palmer, age 102, of 163 Dayton Drive, died Friday, January 7, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Haywood County, and was born and raised on Cataloochee. He was the son of the late William and Eleanor Noland Palmer, and was the husband of the late Magola Caldwell Palmer, who died in 2000. He was also preceded in death by a son, William Edward Palmer, three sisters, Josie Palmer, Lavada Jaynes, and Eulala Caldwell; and by four brothers, Vinson, Vernon, Arlo, and Kimsey Palmer. He was the owner and operator of Palmer Bus Lines for 40 years, and Palmer Service Station for 30 years. After retirement, he enjoyed trading and transporting cattle. He was a member of the New Hope Church of God. He is survived by his daughter, Eunice Palmer of Waynesville; his son, Reverend J. Harold Palmer and his wife, Geretha of Roxboro, NC; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2005 at the New Hope Church of God, where the body will be placed one hour prior to the services. The Reverends Steve Anderson, Alan Greene, and Jeffrey Palmer will officiate. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2005, at the church. At other times, the family will be at the residence. The pallbearers will be Nolan Palmer, Dennis Caldwell, James Walker, Bill Horton, Danny Maney, and Jeffrey Palmer. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Harry Valentine, Robert Russell, B. J. Mehaffey, and the men of New Hope Church of God. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Hope Church of God, 24 Hallelujah Drive, Waynesville, NC 28786. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
