H. Raines, Jr.

H. A. Raines, Jr., age 69, of Phillipsville Loop died peacefully Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at his residence surrounded by family and friends. He was a native of Haywood County and the son of the late Hector and Blanche Haley Raines. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carroll and Harry Pressley. He retired from Champion International with 21 years of service and was a member of West Canton Baptist Church. H. A. had a love for the game of golf and the Pisgah Bears. He was known to stay up all night and loved telling stories with Lib at the Huddle House. He was a United States Navy veteran. He is survived by a very special and dear friend, Elizabeth Bryson; two daughters, Kim McBride and her husband, Duey, of Canton and Jennifer Rathbone and her husband, Danny, of Candler; three sisters, Oberia Haley of Canton, Lita Grey Osborne and her husband, Bill, of Clyde, and Dot Whitaker and her husband, Ray, of Fletcher; five grandchildren, Nick Bryant and his wife, Cindy, Allyson Bryant, Daniel and Jessica Metcalf, and Sarah Rathbone; and one great-grandson, Jacob Raines Ball. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2006, at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Wallace Britt officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
