Hallie Owenby

Hallie Azalee Mashburn Owenby, age 89, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at the residence. A native of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late George and Cora Holden Mashburn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jay Owenby; three sisters, Ollie Grant, Beitha Stiles, and Texie Limbo; and five brothers, Leison, Luther, Wilbur, Julius, and Harley; and a son, Melvin Owenby. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Hallie was the world's greatest mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Heaven couldn't welcome a sweeter mother. She is survived by four sons, David and his wife, Gail, Calvin and his wife, Pam, Marshall and his wife, Ruth, all of Canton and Marvin Owenby of Candler; four daughters, Rosa and her husband, Albert Brown, and Luzean Russell of Canton, Betty and her husband, Charles Smith of Clyde, and Hazel McCall of Waynesville. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Jake Cagle and Brother Herman Toney officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Cemetery in Bryson City officiated by Pastor Jeff Heatherly. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
