Waynesville, James "Hardy" Noland, 89, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at his home. A native of Haywood County, Hardy was the son of the late James "Touse" and Idella Swayngim Noland. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Margie Liner Noland, who died in 2012; an infant son, Steven T. Noland; and a brother, E. Jack Noland. Hardy was a US Navy veteran of World War II and retired as a supervisor for the US Postal Service. He was a dedicated member of First United Methodist Church in Waynesville. He was hardworking, soft-hearted and well-respected in his community and was a caring husband for 62 years to the love of his life, Margie. He enjoyed camping and fly fishing at Cataloochee in his younger years. In his later years, he enjoyed woodworking and mowing his home place on Jule Noland Road, Pigeon Street highway, or any other grass he could find. His passion was caring for his family and friends. Hardy is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Edwards and her husband, Terry; a son, Mark Noland and his wife, Gail; and two sisters, Mary Tate and Betty Boone, all of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Melissa Everett (James), Michael Noland, Megan Noland, Anne Edwards and Joseph Edwards (Allbre); and four great-grandsons, Jase Bleakley, Eli and Cole Everett and Ryan Mack Edwards. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm. on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Sanford L. Giles, Jr. and Reverend George Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
