Waynesville, Harley Lewis Franklin, age 70, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2011 at Mission Hospitals Memorial Campus. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late James Thomas and Frankie Sutton Franklin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son; Nicky Joe Franklin; grandson, Nicky Lewis Franklin and eight brothers and sisters. He retired from Lea Industries and also worked as a telephone contractor. Harley was owner and operator of Franklin & Sons Grading and a farmer. Harley loved his farm and was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking. Harley will be remembered for his giving and kind-hearted spirit. He is survived by three sons, Johnny Lewis Franklin; Dennis Ray Franklin and his wife, Manda and Thomas Gray Franklin all of Waynesville; a girlfriend, Rosetta Conard of Waynesville; two sisters, Jimmie Parton and Mattie Cook both of Sevierville, Tennessee; two brothers, Monroe Franklin of Canton and Londo Franklin of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Angela Bradley and her husband, Conley, of Waynesville, Nathan and Jacob Harley Franklin and three great-grandchildren, Tyler and Isaac Evans and Lucas Bradley and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2011 at Cove Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Nelson and Reverend Ronald Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Franklin Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the church.
