Lake Junaluska – Harley Manson Tate, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Joseph Glenn and Oberia Bryson Tate. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Eva Jane Rogers Tate, who died in 2012, and three brothers, Herbert, Harmon, and Wallace Tate. He was a 20-year veteran of the US Navy, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. Harley continued his career with the US Government working in civil service. He is survived by a daughter, Judith Lynn Tate, of Mills River; sister, Edith Milner, of Waynesville; granddaughter, Taylor Mancuso and her husband, Peter of Greenville, South Carolina; one great-grandchild and one more due in January. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Reverend Curran Welch and Reverend Greg Cope will officiate. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Community Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the church.
