Harold Chambers

July 21, 1932 — January 6, 2012

Clyde, Harold E. Chambers, age 79, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and life-long resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late James Edward and Valrea Fowler Chambers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an aunt, Lucille Rathbone, an uncle, Rufus "Bob" Fowler, and cousin, Stephen Alello. He was a US Air Force veteran having served during the Korean Conflict in Okinawa and a 35 year employee of Champion International, where he retired as a supervisor on No. 19 Machine. He was a member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church and was past president of the Clyde Lions Club where he had served over the Blind Fund. Harold loved traveling the world with his wife, Anna. They visited several countries in Europe and also traveled to many ports of call by cruise ship. Harold was known for keeping an immaculate lawn, fishing the rivers of Western North Carolina, and spending quality time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anna Burnette Chambers; two daughters, Sharon Hinshaw and her husband, Steve, of Fairview and Liz Wells and her husband, Tom, of Belmont; one son, Eddie Chambers, and his significant other, Heidi Prendergast and her children, Danielle and Tyler as well as her grandchild, Mariah, of Canton; six grandchildren, Brandon Faulkner, Jeremy Hinshaw, Lauren and Cameron Wells, and Caleb, and Colby Chambers and their mother, Casey; one great grandchild, Gavin Faulkner; five aunts, Laura Jean Caldwell, of Clyde, Mabel Alello, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Ruth Hawkins and Doris Hightower and her husband, J.T., all of Clyde, and Joyce Henderson and her husband, Charles, of Morganton; many other cousins, especially Jackie Alexander. The family would also like to recognize close friends, Leroy and Lila Jo Murray. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2012 at Clyde Central United Methodist Church with Reverend James Hart and Reverend Dan Gaddy officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the National Guard. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Silver Bluff, Haywood MedWest, Hospice, and Haywood County EMS. Memorials may be made to Clyde Central United Methodist Church General Fund, P.O. Box 8, Clyde, NC 28721. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
