Harold Cogburn

September 2, 1927 — February 29, 2008

Las Vegas, NV – Harold T. Cogburn, age 80, died Saturday, February 29, 2008 at Kindred Hospital of Las Vegas. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Joseph E. and Mary Hipps Cogburn and was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Cogburn. He was retired from the Coast Guard as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 with 28 years of service when he retired in 1973. Harold was a member of the Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Shriners. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Lee Reedy Cogburn; one daughter, Pat Hanson and her husband, Jerry, of Las Vegas, NV; one son, William Cogburn of Wichita, KS; and three grandchildren, Erik Hanson, Stefanie Garcia and Joseph Cogburn. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Wells Funeral Home of Canton with Reverend Bruce Cayton officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by Pigeon River Lodge #386 AF & AM. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Bon-A-Venture Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 32 Rhoda Street, Canton, NC 28716.
